Mark Kostabi & Paul Kostabi, Playing Under Supervision
Brothers Mark and Paul Kostabi are two American contemporary artists with Estonian immigrant origins.
Mark Kostabi is the winner of the "Proliferation Prize" from the East Village Eye for being exhibited more than any other New York artist. His name has become closely connected with East Village art scene, among the influential exponents such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat or Jeff Koons.
Mark Kostabi's paintings can be found now in the private collections of Axl Rose, Bill Gates, Debbie Harry, Brooke Shields, Norman Lear, Billy Wilder, Aaron Spelling, Bill Clinton or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Paul Kostabi is best known for his angst-ridden and ferocious, expressionistic self-portraits. His paintings and prints deploy an urban street art style with new expressionist touches that places the artist at the junction of an exquisite iconic world imagery, between Basquiat and Kurt Cobain.
Paul Kostabi's paintings are present in the permanent collections of: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art (New York), Paterson Museum (Paterson, New Jersey), New England for Contemporary Art (Brooklyn, Connecticut), Whitney Museum of American Art, video, Paper Tiger Sessions, Nassau County Museum of Art (New York), Museion - the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bozen, Italy.
